ABOUT
History
First sold on July 7, 1928, sliced bread has since made history. Initially sold by baker Frank Bench and inventor Otto Rohwedder at Bench’s Chillicothe Baking Company, it was a feat in the making.

Rohwedder and Bench took a chance that paid off—bread sales rose 2,000 percent in the first two weeks. Our building is the original location of the Chillicothe Baking Company.

Although the very first machine used that day in 1928 has since fallen apart, the second machine is on display at the Grand River Museum in Chillicothe, and the Home of Sliced Bread Welcome Center (formerly the Sliced Bread Innovation Center) also houses one of the original machines.
